Looking for a heady night of art? Look no further than Venice Beach, California
this week as Mystic
Productions presents a limited engagement run of its flagship
multimedia dance production “Mystic.” It starts tonight, running Jan. 29-31 and Feb. 1.
Billed as a visceral theatrical experience exploring the
mystery of human origin, the evolution of consciousness, and galactic destiny
through provocative video art, cutting-edge modern dance, and live music
featuring The Earth Harp in complete narrative form, you really shouldn’t be
surprised this event is taking place in Venice.
Home to groovy new-agers, hippies, potheads, art lovers, and even
muscle-building freaks, where else but at the beach in sunny California would you expect to learn the
mystery of human origin?
“Mystic’s” cast includes performers from Rabbit in the Moon,
Cirque du Soleil,
Dossier, Firegroove, Mixology, and Mass Ensemble.
The costume designs are by Morgan Olson and Jesse
Clarkson, best known for their work on theatrical projects such
as Cirque Berzerk and films such as Ironman.
“Mystic’s” story is told through elaborate costumed dancers
and aerialist characters supported by immersive 5-screen synchronized video projection screens and strategically played song
lyrics from artists such as Radiohead, Future Primitive, Adam Freeland,
and Depeche Mode.
Beginning tonight, Thursday, January 29 through Sunday,
February 1, the troupe will do two nightly performances at Electric Lodge in Venice. Tickets are $30
and $50 and there’s an art reception beforehand curated by The Hive Gallery &
Studio and an
after-party by GreenSector at the same location.
A limited number of $50 VIP tickets will be available, which include free open
bar as well as access to the Mystic Lounge.
Electric Lodge is located at 1416 Electric Avenue, Venice, CA
